Dog Poop

Long time, no posts! I wanted to post something I worked on a while ago to get some feedback. This has got some issues that I can see pretty clearly, but I want to get everyone's reaction to it. I plan to make another pass sometime soon, so this is good timing for crits. Thanks!

Eh?!

So I was inspired to animate a clip from Bob and Doug Mckenzie. I think I've got one or two more passes in me before I close up shop on this one. Crits and comments welcome.

Enjoy

Rough Pass

Here's my initial rough pass, which is very exciting to me since this is the first time i have ever attempted to do animation totally in flash (the next piece will be good ol paper and pencil). I left the bg out because it is distracting at this stage. the horse is in a cowboy bar (old western style). I'm working on adding a few head turns and things. Stay tuned for the next phase ---- i'll try to post it next weekish.

April 2007 -

This month I want to try something new. In the past there was talk of doing some more dramatic acting clips. Well some months you might not feel like you are very dramatic. So this month I want to have the option of a more comedic clip, and a more dramatic clip. If this format works well, and everyone likes having the option of choosing from a dramatic or comedic clip, let’s do this every month.

Comedic Clip

Dramatic Clip
http://www.moviesoundclips.net/movies1/signs/meal.wav

Please keep in mind that, just because it is labeled as dramatic, or comedic, doesn’t mean it has to be animated that way. If there is some comedic angle you can take with the dramatic clip, by all means, take it!

Good Luck Beefcakes!

March in Review

Beefcakes:

March has ended and so has the monthly animation challenge for ‘Elderberry Wine’. From the posts, it looks like people have finished their shot to varying degrees. Everyone’s shots are coming along nicely and so it would be a shame not to finish the work. So here is what I am thinking:

The new sound clip will be posted shortly, and with it begins April’s Animation Challenge. I want to get this one going for anyone who might be planning on joining the challenge for the first time. However, for the March entries, let’s give it another week or two to polish them off. The sooner the better, of course, but since the competition got going a bit late, and since people have lives outside this competition, it seems only appropriate to extend the deadline slightly.

What I also suggest would be to just go ahead and update your link to the newest YouTube video (the new one replacing the old one). If you want to keep them all archived with YouTube, or whoever, that’s totally cool, but just having one visible video on your post will help keep everyone from scrolling for a million years to get to each entry. You can also modify the March post to have any additional notes, and preferably, a version tag of some kind (i.e. ‘Blocking’, ‘Blocking Plus’, ‘Polishing’, ‘Final’, ‘Whatever’).

Everyone’s March entries are looking awesome, so I am excited to be already starting a new challenge where we can see some more great work.

Am I forgetting anything? If so, please feel free to e-mail
AnimationBeefcakes@gmail.com . I set up an account with Google pages so that we can post Quicktime files, (which we will hopefully be switching to shortly). Which brings me to the next point;

http://AnimationBeefcakes.googlepages.com. Check it out! This is pretty self explanatory. I don’t plan on doing a lot with It, but I would like to use it for easy storage of important information, and possibly showing archived animations. Let me know what you think!

Alright, I think that is the long and short of the first month in review, and the plans looking forward. Congratulations! to the entries for March, you have one more kickass piece of animation to add to your reel!

Elderberry Blocking

Hey guys, here's my blocking (finally). Please go ahead and leave all the feedback you can think of. You don't have to make it enormous like I did :)

Thanks,

Comments

Nice job guys. I figured I'd leave some quick feedback, even if it's too late!

El Snoozo: I like the lean forward on the "gallon" and "wine" accents. Makes the character look inviting, which goes well with the gentle voice. My main complaint is that I think the wrist bend angles are too extreme for most of the animation. I realize you want to exaggerate, but they're nearing the angle of looking "broken."

Josh: I like how you start out with subtle tilts of the head, and build up into more motion with the upper body and arms. The thinking and shrug on "stricknine" is a great moment. I think the main thing you can improve is moving that gesturing hand over to the (your) left a little to get a better sillhouette. Just so it's not getting lost in the arm of the chair.

Good starts guys, hopefully I'll have my blocking posted soon so you can give me your 2 cents.

Eldeberry Wine: First Pass

Well here it is, my first pass at the sound file. All the main poses are pretty much there, and now it's the mad rush to "Git er done" by the end o' the month.

Lemme know what you guys think.

Also I went the youtube route, and it seems that the video gets a little delayed from the soundfile..I dunno if that's from compression, or what.

First Blocking Pass

Well here is my first pass at blocking. I have been working on posing for quite some time, and I feel like I have some more to work on, but I wanted to post it early and get any feedback people might have. Any comments are welcomed and appreciated! I hope to make a good pass on this over the weekend, but we'll see how much time I have.

Thanks!

How it works!

Welcome to the Animation Beefcake's Animation Challenge!

Here's how it works:
-At the begining of each month, a sound clip will be posted.
-You have one month to complete an animtion for that sound clip.
-At the end of each month, after all of the participants have posted their work, public crits will be given.

This is designed as a way for the people involved to become better animators through peer critiques.
All critiques should be constructive and not inflamatory.
If you post a shot, you are required to comment once on each of the other entries.

Thats it! Pretty simple.
-Josh
